Rio Olympics soccer live stream: Watch Brazil vs. Honduras online: Aug. 17
Here is all you need to know about Brazil’s upcoming match with Honduras in the Olympics on Wednesday, Aug. 17.
The hosts have arrived.
It is, perhaps more than any other gold medal in the whole games, the most expected win. Brazil, the nation synonymous with beautiful, free-flowing, winning football, hosting the greatest sporting event on the planet couldn’t possibly fail to win the soccer gold medal.
… Could they?
Well, they certainly couldn’t have been handed an easier draw in the semi-finals. The surprise team in the whole competition, Honduras have continually defied the odds to make it this far, knocking out London 2012 bronze medalists South Korea in the quarter-finals with a spirited 1-0 victory.
They weren’t expected to win a game, never mind make the last four. Now, though, they face a different caliber of opponent — an opponent that is just warming to form.
Brazil looked back to their best in a 4-0 dismantling of then group leaders Denmark to qualify for the knockout stages. They then eased past Columbia with a 2-0 win, as Neymar came alive with a terrific 25-yard free-kick, curling it perfectly into the back of the net to send the Brazilian faithful mental. They are now just one game away from the final, and the gold that everyone expects, is one step close to home.
