The 2016 Rio Olympics beach volleyball tournament concludes on Thursday with the medal rounds of the men’s competition.
Thursday’s schedule will begin with the bronze medal match at 9;00 p.m. Eastern on Copacabana Beach. That will be followed by the gold medal match at 11:00 p.m.
The crowd will be rocking during the gold medal match, as Brazilian favorites Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt will face Daniele lupo and Paolo Nicolai of Italy. The top-seeded hosts were perfect in pool play and earned a pair of hard-fought three-set wins in the knockout stages over Team USA’s Nick and Phil Dalhausser and the Netherlands’ Robert Meeusen and Alexander Brouwer.

Italy will be an underdog in the match after advancing from pool play as a lucky loser squad, but have picked up multiple impressive victories in the tournament. Lupo and Nocolai came from behind to beat Russian squads in both the quarterfinals and semifinals.
The Dutch squad will take on Russia’s Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Konstantin Semenov in the bronze medal match ahead of the main event.
