Picking the Sports Mount Rushmore for all 50 states

Montana

Montana’s Mount Rushmore is perhaps the weirdest on this list. One of its members isn’t even an athlete and the other three participated in truly unique sports.

Evel Knievel is best known as a stunt man. He was a pioneer for extreme sports and paved the way for future extreme athletes. Knievel also did phenomenal things on a motorcycle, including jumping over multiple vehicles. He was, perhaps surprisingly, a vocal proponent of motorcycle safety.

Lones Wigger went to four Olympics as a shooter. In 1964, he won a gold medal in the 50m rifle three positions competition and a silver medal in the 50m rifle prone position competition. He won a gold medal in the 1972 Olympics in the 300m free rifle event. Wigger won over 50 national championships in a variety of events.

Dan Mortensen is one of the greatest rodeo champions of all time. Mortensen is a six-time World Champion rodeo cowboy in saddle bronc. He won the World All-Around Rodeo Championship in 1997 and is one of the highest earning cowboys of all-time.

Brent Musburger is a broadcaster for football. He has experience broadcasting NFL games and college football games. Musburger has also done broadcasting for the MLB, NBA, NASCAR and has done NCAA basketball as well. His is one of the most recognizable voices in broadcasting.
