Let’s look back at Game of Thrones’ sophomore season and rank the episodes.

Remember when Game of Thrones didn’t regularly smash ratings records? That was less than five years ago, by the way. Yes, it’s time to look back at the second go-around for Daenerys Targaryen, the Starks, Tyrion Lannister, Jon Snow, and the rest of the players of the great game.

In many ways, the second season is relatively simple compared to the events that follow it in season 3 and beyond. That being said, what’s simple on Game of Thrones is quite complex for pretty much any other show on television.

At the same time, however, season 2 takes what season 1 did well and runs with those things. It pushes the boundaries. Perhaps it doesn’t go for as many shocks as seasons that follow, but it doesn’t need them.

While it doesn’t always reach the heights of other seasons, the missteps here don’t feel as glaring as they do in other seasons. (Still looking right at you, Dorne.)

Of course, this season is also the source of one of the generally acclaimed best episodes of the show ever. We’ll get to it. We promise.

That all being said, let’s dive into season 2 of Game of Thrones.
