Both the New York Jets and the Washington Redskins had far more success than anyone could have expected them to last season. The Redskins went on to win the NFC East and make it into the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Jets fell just short of the postseason, but finished 2015 with 10 wins and a second-place finish in the AFC East. Now both teams are looking to return to that form in the 2016 NFL preseason to get the ball rolling. They’ll meet for Jets at Redskins from FedEx Field on Friday night.
For the Redskins, they’re unfortunately still going to be without their star rookie wide receiver in Josh Doctson out of TCU for their matchup with the Jets. However, Kirk Cousins will be out to show that he can indeed be the franchise quarterback in Washington that they’ve long been looking for. However, what they may need to show the most of is Matt Jones being effective running the ball after the departure of Alfred Morris in the offseason.
The visiting Jets will be looking to show that last year wasn’t a fluke. Obviously their defense is anything but flukey, but the key will be for Ryan Fitzpatrick and company to continue trending upward after arguably the best year of his career last season.
