Updated 2016 Rio Olympics medal count with Usain Bolt adding his third gold from these games and the record-tying ninth of his Olympic career

Usain Bolt is hands-down one of the most dominant athletes in any sport that we’ve ever seen. He proved that when he first started winning three gold medals in the Olympics back in 2008. Again, he made sure we hadn’t forgotten when he repeated his triple-golds at London 2012. In Rio 2016, though, he was looking to complete the unheard of “triple-triple” by winning the Men’s 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay at three-straight Olympic Games.

Friday night to conclude Day 14 of the Games was the moment of truth in that conquest for Usain Bolt. He had already achieved three consecutive golds in the 100m and 200m. All that stood in the way of the unprecedented triple-triple was a win in the Men’s 4x100m final. Just as you’d expect, Bolt ran the anchor leg of the relay and pulled away from the competition to indeed complete his historic feat.

There were other things happening of consequence other than just Bolt’s emphatic victory to conclude his career. The United States also won another gold in track as the Women’s 4x100m Relay final was won by Team USA. Jamaica added another medal there as well, coming in second for the silver.

Greece captured their third gold medal of Rio 2016 as well on the track on Friday night. Ekaterini Stefanidi won in the Women’s Pole Vault final to keep the Greeks looking solid in the Olympics medal count.

It’s worth noting that the United States almost added medal No. 106 in the Men’s 4x100m. However, they were disqualified and left at 105. Still, though, they have dominated the medal count through 14 days and seemingly have it all wrapped up already.
