Hideo Itami hit the GTS for the first time on WWE TV, nailing Austin Aries after his match at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II

CM Punk during his time at WWE was one of the biggest names on the planet in professional wrestling. And along with that fame also came the fame of his moveset. Chief among his signature moves was his finisher, the GTS (Go To Sleep). However, he actually “borrowed” that move from the now Hideo Itami. So since Itami’s arrival at NXT, fans have been waiting for him to reclaim the move from the now-departed Punk on WWE TV.

After him being out for over a year and only garnering more buzz, though, Hideo Itami finally delivered the goods.

At NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II on Saturday night, Austin Aries was in a match with No Way Jose. Aries had already won the match when he continued to beat down Jose. That’s when Itami’s music hit and he came down to the ring. After the two men exchanged blows, Aries was left dazed and on the ground. That’s when Hideo Itami listened the the chants of the Brooklyn crowd and hoisted him up for the GTS. Then, he landed the knee flush on Aries:

There are so many different levels to this in regards to importance. Not only is this fantastic move with an even better name back in the fold of WWE, but you’re also talking about a way to get the buzz back about Hideo Itami. After all, he’d been out for so long with his shoulder injury that he had to return by creating some hype. This is certainly one way to go about it.

Even if Hideo Itami had already done the GTS once before on a house show, this is still incredible. He’s taken the GTS back from CM Punk and, unless Punk is going to try it in the Octagon, it’s his to stay.
