Olympics Women’s Handball Gold Medal Match: France vs Russia
There haven’t been many more events or tournaments at the 2016 Rio Olympics that have offered the excitement of the women’s handball competition. Upsets, dramatic finishes, and so much more have been commonplace throughout the event. Now it all comes to a close on Saturday with the women’s handball gold medal match on Saturday, August 20. If we’ve learned anything, it’s that nothing’s impossible as France vs Russia will decide the winner of the tournament in Rio.
France has already played Russia once at Rio 2016 as they both emerged out of Group B. Russia got the better of that matchup, but France have been playing much better since. They dispatched a dangerous Brazil team to start the knockout stage and then showed their fight in beating Netherlands. Now there’s a gold medal hanging in the balance. If they can continue to show their fire, they’ll at least be able to give their opponents a challenge for the top of the podium.
Russia on the other hand has yet to lose at Rio 2016. They went 5-0 in the group stage and have obviously been unbeaten in the elimination rounds. Along the way, they also ousted the defending gold medalists in Norway in the semifinals to get to the gold medal match. Can they become the new Olympic queens of women’s handball on Saturday is the only question remaining.
