Updated 2016 Rio Olympics medal count after the United States women’s volleyball team won the bronze medal on Saturday

Saturday is a huge day always in regards to the Olympics medal count. Not only is it the next-to-last day of Rio 2016, but it’s also the day for many medal matches in team competitions. Subsequently, there was some hardware being given out throughout the day on August 20 on Day 15.

Arguably the biggest medal of the day came from the US women’s basketball. They were favored to win the gold in the event coming into Rio 2016 and they made it look easy. Using a 20-point lead that they held for most of the game, the American women rolled to the gold medal in women’s hoop.

In fact, they weren’t the only United States women’s team to medal on Saturday, thought. The US women’s volleyball team also had a big day in Rio. After suffering a tough loss in their semifinal matchup, they were able to secure a win in the bronze medal match to add to their total.

Boxing also brought Team USA more hardware on Day 15. They were able to secure a silver medal with Shakur Stevenson losing in the gold medal match. Even with the loss, a silver medal is a great way to soothe the wounds.

After all of this, the US now has an even more commanding lead in the Rio Olympics medal count. Here’s a look at the updated standings:

No one’s catching the United States here. However, Great Britain and China are both in a race to see who will finish second in terms of gold medals won. We’ll see what happens over the last day and a half.
