The Virginia Tech Hokies have released the jerseys they will wear at the Battle at Bristol versus the Tennessee Volunteers Week 1 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
On Saturday night, the Virginia Tech Hokies athletic department unveiled the jerseys its football team will wear versus the Tennessee Volunteers at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Pilot Flying J will sponsor the neutral-site game between the Hokies and the Volunteers at Bristol Motor Speedway. Keep in mind that Pilot Flying J’s owner is a Tennessee alum and the current owner of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns in Jimmy Haslem.
While Tennessee will surely dress to impress for their Week 1 game versus the Hokies, Virginia Tech is going to try something different from the maroon and orange associated with their ACC football program.
The name for this type of jersey is “Hokie Stone” to pay tribute to the Blacksburg campus’ signature stone structures. It is mostly varying shades of grey, with some black around the stone-inspired thread.
The black helmet with the stone-clad VT looks incredible. Its certainly more involved of a jersey than the Smoky Mountain grey jerseys popular in recent years with Tennessee football. The jersey is a nice change-up for the tradition maroon and orange of Virginia Tech, but it is the helmet that sets the tone for the Battle at Bristol garb for the Hokies.

The Battle at Bristol will also be the first game for new Hokies head coach Justin Fuente, who takes over for the greatest head coach in Virginia Tech history in the retired Frank Beamer. Fuente had great success turning around a traditional mid-major mess in the Memphis Tigers.
Fuente will have a tough first matchup against a presumed top 10 team in Tennessee in Week 1. Will the Hokie Stone threads help get Virginia Tech over the top? We’ll just have to wait and see.
