Women’s Olympics triathlon live stream: Watch online – August 20
Live stream information and how to watch the women’s Olympics triathlon online and on television on Saturday, August 20.
After a thrilling finish to the men’s Olympics triathlon, it’s time for the women to hit the course at Fort Copacabana in hopes of a gold medal in the women’s Olympics triathlon.
The Olympics women’s triathlon is on Saturday, August 20. The event takes place at Fort Copacabana, providing a scenic course for the run, swim, and bike ride. The triathlon follows the Olympics format with a 1.5-kilometer swim, a 40-kilometer bike ride, and a 10-kilometer run.
The best chances for a medal in the Olympics triathlon come from the United States women, with Gwen Jorgensen at the top of the pack. Jorgensen’s strength is the run; she had the fastest run in all of the World Championship Series runs she competed in during the 2015 season. How fast? In a few of the races that featured Olympics-length runs, she was almost a minute faster than her competitors. Jorgensen is the one to catch in Rio.
Rio’s Fort Copacabana offers a gorgeous course for the triathlon that follows the beach and winds through the town; the only potential issue is the weather. The temperatures have been high, with gusty winds that have wreaked havoc on other events. There is also the issue of high humidity on the roads that wind through Rio’s lush rainforests, which led to slippery conditions during the road races.
On Thursday, brother’s Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee of Great Britain raced for the gold medal. Alistair passed his brother toward the finish line and won the gold, making him a back-to-back Olympics triathlon gold medalist. Jonathan adds a silver to his medal collection after winning the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
