Olympics Men’s Basketball Gold Medal Game: Team USA vs Serbia
The ride to get to the 2016 Rio Olympics men’s basketball gold medal game has certainly been anything but calm. Even the favorites to win gold in Team USA have found themselves up against it on more than one occasion throughout the tournament. However, they’ve made it to their final matchup where it’ll be Team USA vs Serbia duking it out to determine who wins gold and who walks away just short with silver.
Despite finding themselves in tough matchups to end the preliminary round and in the semifinal matchup with Spain to get to the gold medal game, Team USA are still the unquestioned favorites. They have an advantage on the interior against any team with centers DeAndre Jordan and DeMarcus Cousins in the frontcourt. Moreover, the offensive firepower of Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Carmelo Anthony is hard to handle for anyone. However, their greatest asset is their defense. When Team USA turns up the pressure on that end of the floor, they can absolutely dominate opponents.
Serbia on the other hand has been a bit of a dark horse in this tournament, but proved just how legitimate they are in their semifinal thrashing of Australia. Not only is Nikola Jokic lighting the world on fire in the frontcourt, but Milos Teodosic has been fantastic thus far. They along with Miroslav Raduljica will have to be at their very best come Sunday or it’ll be a silver medal for their troubles at Rio 2016.
