WWE SummerSlam 2016 results and highlights from the Women’s Championship match between Sasha Banks and Charlotte

Sasha Banks vs Charlotte is a match that’s been building for quite some time now. These two women have a rivalry dating back to NXT and their singles feud on the main roster has been inevitable. So when Banks defeated Charlotte to win the WWE Women’s Championship on RAW several weeks ago, a rematch at WWE SummerSlam 2016 was inevitable.

Charlotte tried to start off the match by physically intimidating Sasha, but that plan didn’t work out so well. The champ landed a headscissors and then locked in the Bank Statement that sent the challenger scampering under the ropes and out of the ring. Back in the ring, though, Charlotte was able to assert her physical dominance, particularly after bringing Banks falling down from the top rope. That spot left Sasha’s back hurt and the champ ailing.

Ever the warrior, Sasha never relented in trying to get her offense in on the challenger. She unleashed a flurry of dropkicks and tried to get momentum on her side. However, Charlotte continued to answer with back-based offense. Once in the corner, the Queen got Banks up on the top rope and looked to go for a massive Razor’s Edge. The champ, though, found the strength to somehow counter into a Hurricanrana.

With both women feeling the effects of the match already, they got into a battle of chops and strikes. When Charlotte tried to take the action back to the corner with a shoulder tackle, though, Sasha was able to find an amazing counter with a Boston Crab over the ropes.

That’s when business really picked up in this match. Charlotte was left trying to play catchup for a bit, including trying to hit Natural Selection. However, Sasha countered into the Bank Statement again. Somehow, though, Charlotte escaped and then was able to take out the knee and hit her finish. But the champ kicked out.

Trying to end it once and for all, Charlotte sent Sasha off the ropes, but Banks countered by turning a tilt-a-whirl into the Bank Statement. Then came the real shocker, though, as Charlotte rolled Sasha over on her shoulders, good enough for the 1-2-3. Your winner and new champion, Charlotte.
