During their match at Summerslam, Brock Lesnar caused Randy Orton to bleed profusely from the head.

Whether or not it was planned, the match at Summerslam between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton was a weak finish to the pay-per-view. The two rivals started a rivalry when Orton trolled Lesnar about failing his post-UFC 200 drug test. Their match at Summerslam was announced as the evening’s main event. But the ending to the match was very anti-climatic, as Lesnar won by technical knockout (TKO) after causing Orton’s head to bleed profusely.

The WWE has not allowed for excessive blood in matches in recent years. In fact, they’ve been a bit conservative with blood over the years. Medical professionals are near the ring at all times, ready to call a match off if there’s any excessive bleeding. Lesnar caused Orton to bleed his own blood after a variety of blows to the head. It was quite serious, as Orton required 10 staples to close the wound.

Throughout the fight, Orton seemed dazed and didn’t even really defend himself in the end. Luckily, the referee stopped the match and medical professionals were able to take care of Orton. It’s hard to believe the match was scripted to end like that. The WWE loves ratings, but not at the expense of the potential future of one of their superstars. Orton’s injury could have been a lot worse and he most likely has a concussion from Lesnar’s actions.

Will the WWE address the scenario? Could fans see Lesnar suspended or reprimanded for his actions? Maybe this causes a showdown between Triple H and Lesnar. Perhaps the WWE planned for the match to be stopped, but they certainly wouldn’t allow Orton to be put in serious danger. It’s likely that the WWE will at least acknowledge Orton on Monday Night Raw tonight.
