Ranking 32 NFL head coaches based on presidential potential
1. Bruce Arians – Arizona Cardinals
My first born, the most valuable gems in the world, and the United States of America: I’d entrust these things, and many more, in the hands of Bruce Arians.
Perhaps the best piece of anecdotal evidence regarding Arians’ presidential potential comes from a story by The Ringer’s Robert Mays. As Mays was interviewing Arizona general manager Steve Keim, Keim spoke about the moment he told Arians the Cardinals had signed Chris Johnson. The GM was all sorts of amped up about the signing, and couldn’t wait to tell Arians. When Keim finally did tell the coach, though, Arians said, without so much as a moment’s hesitation, “I will have him ready,” before promptly moving on to other, more pressing Bruce Arians things.
That’s what makes Arians such a special football coach, and what could make him an interesting presidential candidate. Not only has Arians earned the trust that allows for such unapologetically blunt behavior, he backs it up be turning whatever hand he’s dealt into a winning one. No matter what panic-strewn papers landed on the presidential desk, Arians would have the proper, well-considered response — peppered, no doubt, by his delightfully liberal use of the word mother… you know the rest.
