The WWE debuted a new title belt for Raw during SummerSlam, and the WWE Universe hated it. Seth Rollins was not a fan of their reaction.

The WWE made a big to-do over the introduction of its new Universal Championship Belt, which immediately became the top belt for its Raw brand.

It was already off to a bad start with the name, which was ridiculed constantly on Smackdown. When the belt was revealed as the red cousin to the WWE Championship belt (currently held by Dean Ambrose), fans reacted harshly, with boos raining down heavily from Barclays Center as Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley beamed over their creation.

Even as Finn Balor and Seth Rollins battled in what was perhaps the ultimate match of a jam-packed Summer Slam pay-per-view, fans let their feelings be known known. Chants of “That belt sucks” rained down repeatedly throughout the match, as fans sang chanted to the tune of The New Day’s “New Day Rocks” and John Cena’s entrance theme.

The predictably loud and critical Brooklyn crowd was not having any of the belt, and one of the stage’s biggest stars was none too pleased.

Even though Seth Rollins didn’t walk out a champion, he was fuming over what he saw as fans distracting from the match, and all it meant to the two competitors involved. In a very kayfabe moment somewhat lacking in his usual tinge of heelish arrogance, Rollins lashed out at the Brooklyn fans:

Balor, decked out in his full demon regalia, became the first ever holder of the WWE Universal Championship.  It was one of the best matches of the evening, living up to the build and hype between two of the future faces for the WWE and its Raw brand.

The Brooklyn crowd promises to be hot once again Monday night for the next episode of Raw. By then, fans will have gotten word of Rollins’ comments, and will likely be looking to return the favor in kind. That will certainly get Rollins even more heat than he usually gets as the brand’s top heel.

And Balor too might be hearing more boos than before with the red belt around his waist for the first time.
