The Minnesota Wild have chosen “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince as their new goal song.
The death of Prince was felt around the world. It was especially felt in his home state of Minnesota because Prince was the state’s most famous resident of all-time.
The Minnesota Wild will honor Prince by changing their goal song from “Crowd Chant” by Joe Satriani to his song “Let’s Go Crazy.”
This is a terrific way to honor Prince on a regular basis. Everybody loves him, but he doesn’t have many songs that would translate well to hockey. “Let’s Go Crazy” was chosen by season ticket holders after the Wild polled their season ticket holders during the offseason.
“Our in-arena experience is designed for the fans, so it’s great to be able to show them we take their feedback to heart,” said vice president of communications John Maher, via NHL.com. “At the same time, it’s our privilege to celebrate an iconic hometown artist that clearly has had an incredible impact on our community and the world.”
“Crowd Chant” is a nice song and it gets people pumped up. It’s iconic because of the guitar rifts and solos. However, it seems like every professional sports team uses it so it gets a bit boring. “Let’s Go Crazy” is unique and special to Minnesota.
The Wild are looking to improve on their first round exit from the playoffs last season. They recently hired Bruce Boudreau, formerly of the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals. He should help the team improve and help their young players develop.
You can hear “Let’s Go Crazy” as the goal song for the first time on September 24, the Wild’s first preseason game (assuming they score). But if you can’t wait until then, that’s understandable. So here you go.
