The newest titles for WWE Smackdown LIVE with the Women’s and Tag Team Championships debuting on Tuesday night

Prior to the August 23 episode of WWE Smackdown LIVE, general manager Daniel Bryan announced that the show would be debuting two new championships. This was a huge announcement on the first episode after SummerSlam. Moreover, it was also one that had been expected for some time if you’ve followed the rumors.

For several weeks now, there had been rumblings that WWE Smackdown LIVE would be getting their own Women’s ant Tag Team Championships. This would make sense considering those divisions had no prize on the Tuesday night show. Subsequently, that seemed like the obvious place that this was heading.

Sure enough, the August 23 episode of Smackdown LIVE began with Bryan and Shane McMahon out in the ring. They were joined by every tag team and female superstar on the roster. In front of the lot were the new belts, both of which offered new looks.

Here’s a look at the brand new tag titles for WWE Smackdown LIVE:

And here’s a look at the new women’s title for Smackdown:

At first look, the Smackdown tag titles are fantastic. They offer a new look with the blue strap, a color that’s much more favorable than the red on the Universal title. As for the Smackdown Women’s title, it feels very low-effort to just turn the background of the already existing title blue. Even still, the presence of these new titles is a great move for WWE and the Smackdown brand.

Moreover, Bryan and McMahon announced how the first champions to hold these titles would be decided. For the women’s belt, there will be a six-pack challenge at the upcoming Backlash pay-per-view. As for the tag titles, there will be a tournament to decide the first-ever champs. That tournament will begin on Tuesday and culminate at Backlash as well.
