NFL Rumors: Joey Bosa rejects San Diego Chargers’ latest offer
By John Buhler
Joey Bosa has rejected the San Diego Chargers’ most recent offer. Their No. 3 overall pick remains unsigned and he now might miss 2016 regular season games.
The Joey Bosa rookie contract holdout has been an utter disaster for the San Diego Chargers organization. Their No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft out of The Ohio State University remains unsigned.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “the Chargers put out their best offer, feeling any more missed time would mean Joey Bosa doesn’t play the full 16 games. It was rejected.” Rapoport would add that the Chargers were going to make him the second highest paid rookie in his class behind only Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz.
The Chargers added their own statement on the Bosa contract holdout, stating “As a result, we will restructure our offer since Joey will be unable to contribute for the full 16 game season.”
It is totally understandable the Chargers organization wants to place a hard deadline on a deal for a 16-game regular season. Bosa has not participated in NFL training camp thus far and will now almost certainly miss his third preseason game this week.
He may have immense pass rushing talent coming out of Ohio State, but he only turned 21 in July and appears to be a long way away from taking the field for head coach Mike McCoy’s Chargers.

With San Diego having an uphill battle in 2016 coming off a dreadful 4-12 campaign last fall, it was crucial for the Chargers to hit on their No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Not only has the Chargers/Bosa standstill been an organizational embarrassment, there is now a good chance that he will sit out the 2016 season and re-enter the 2017 NFL Draft.
