This hamster playing Super Mario bros. in real life is everything

But does he know that the hamster princess is in another castle?

Some of my friends and family understand all too well why Japan is the one country I’ve never been to that I desperately want to see firsthand. For the others, I submit stuff like this, a hamster running around a real life Super Mario Bros. set-up (h/t to The Daily Dot for pointing it out).

It’s not just that someone took the time to build a pretty damn impressive replica of a Super Mario Bros. level for their hamster, though that’s certainly worthy of plenty of props.

No, it’s that they took the extra time and set this video to the authentic sound effects and music from the iconic video game, including when he uses the warp pipe and when he finishes the level.

Watch and prepare to be delighted:

It’s handy to know that hamsters are immune to the Piranha Plant. And that they know enough to clear out the underground areas of their coins, as you can tell from the sound effects. Alas, the hamster doesn’t seem too interested in wearing the red hat, so maybe he’s more of a Luigi fan.

I can only assume that the next step is to recreate one of the castle levels, or at least that’s what I would do if I was handy enough to pull something like this off. And Nintendo, if you want to throw a hamster character in the first Mario game for the NX, it would probably go over like gangbusters. Call it a hunch.
