30. Vanderbilt University Memorial Gymnasium

This venue is dedicated to those who have passed on, which means there’s an especially high chance a supernatural presence has found its way into the bleachers. But it isn’t just the name that earns Vanderbilt’s Memorial Gymnasium a spot on this list. It has a rich history and many quirky features that make it a prime target for supernatural sports fans.

When the Memorial Gymnasium was being built back in the 1950s, there was some disagreement among distinguished alumni about whether the school should de-emphasize its athletics program or keep on trucking in the SEC. Despite being the smallest (and only private) school in the SEC, Vanderbilt continues to hold its own in collegiate athletics.

Though not rich in athletic history, Vanderbilt has had its greatest success on the hardwood. Anybody that has ever seen a Vanderbilt basketball game in person, or even on television, knows that Memorial Gymnasium looks like nothing else in the college game.

It acts as somewhat of a distinct home court advantage for the Commodores. The court is also elevated a few feet above the lower level stands to give off a stage-like feel. The stadium’s weirdest feature is the benches, which are located behind the basket, not along the sidelines.

Memorial Gymnasium is both quirky and beloved by Commodore Nation. Would esteemed late sportswriter Grantland Rice ever take the time to see his Commodores duke it out on the hardwood? The odd configuration of Memorial Gymnasium and the aristocratic vibe of Vanderbilt in general only add to the belief that its basketball venue could harbor ghosts.
