31 sports stadiums most likely to be haunted
By John Buhler
1. Madison Square Garden.
Madison Square Garden may be the obvious choice, but there’s a reason for that. It is an architectural marvel, and has hosted hundreds of New York Knicks games, New York Rangers games, concerts and a whole bunch of other events, too.
New York is the biggest media market in the country and MSG is the Mecca of sports entertainment in the U.S. Los Angeles’ Staples Center and Brooklyn’s Barclays Center try to match it, but they ultimately pale in comparison to the rich history of MSG.
The Knicks won two NBA Championship in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Rangers ended a 50+ year Stanley Cup drought back in 1994. MSG has also hosted countless NBA and NFL Drafts, as well as many All-Star Games.
As for the spirits residing there, a lot of them probably paid there first living visit to the arena in the days of the former Big East Basketball Tournament. The realignment of conferences caused many of the Big East’s football schools to leave the basketball conference, but it was for a time a renegade conference that routinely dominated the sport.
Rivalries like Georgetown-Syracuse have fallen to the wayside, the Knicks haven’t looked championship caliber for a long time and the Rangers haven’t won a Stanley Cup since 1994. But none of that matters, because MSG is the most iconic venue in North American sports.
If somebody was unable to venture to the Big Apple to see the Knicks play at MSG in their life time, they almost certainly took a trip in the afterlife. The aura at MSG is unlike anything else in the country.
