All these recent Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild clips got us thinking. Is Nintendo prepping to announce a release date?
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been in development for quite a few years now. Originally slated to release in 2015, the game has a major amount of hype behind it, and it’s shaping up to be one of the best Zelda games of all time. Maybe even one of the greatest games of all time, period. But unfortunately, the game has been met with various delays.
First it was delayed to 2016 because the developers felt that with the time that they had, they wouldn’t be able to deliver the game the fans deserved. Then, this past March, Nintendo revealed that not only would they be delaying the game (again) to 2017, but they would also be releasing it on the Nintendo NX along with the Nintendo Wii U. As you can see, its definitely been a interesting development cycle. At E3 2016 though, it was evident that the company knows exactly what they’re doing.
With day one of Nintendo’s live stream dedicated almost completely to the new Zelda game, we got our first look at extensive gameplay, and the lucky attendees in L.A. even got a chance to play the demo. Almost all the feedback about the game has been absolutely positive, making Breath of the Wild look like a real game-changer.
Since E3, we haven’t heard much about the game up until about three weeks ago when Nintendo revealed a brand new video clip showcasing the new Temple of Time that will be a part of Breath of the Wild. At first, it appeared this might be a one-and-done to tease the fans and we would hear more about it closer to its release, but we were wrong. As the weeks have gone by, Nintendo has released various game clips, each dedicated to a different aspect of the game.
Since the E3 demo was so extensive, they haven’t really shown anything that we haven’t seen yet, but this seems like some sort of focused marketing strategy. There has been rumors of a potential Nintendo NX reveal sometime in September, leading one to believe Nintendo is getting ready to not only reveal the new NX console, but also the release date for Breath of the Wild as well.

Let’s be honest. The Nintendo Wii U isn’t doing so hot right now when it comes to sales, and if there’s anything that’s going to make the NX fly off the charts, it’s the next Zelda game. If this new Nintendo presentation does end up happening in September, we already know that we’ll see the NX in all of its glory, but there’s a very strong chance that we’ll also get a new trailer for Breath of the Wild along with a release date revealing that it will be a launch title with the NX next March.
Obviously, this is all speculation, but with the recent trend of brief game clips for the game, it only makes sense right now. Let’s hope we can get our hands on this game sooner rather than later.
