The San Diego Chargers and rookie defensive end Joey Bosa may never get a deal done.

Back on April 30, the Chargers turned in their draft card and selected Joey Bosa with the third-overall pick. It was a celebration for San Diego, which desperately had to land a marquee player. Incredibly, it is turning into a full-blown nightmare.

On Wednesday, the Chargers issued a press release detailing the failures of both sides to come to an agreement. The team blamed Bosa, stating he turned down an overwhelming offer. Owner John Spanos then took it a step further, calling Bosa’s stance asinine. At this point, it is impossible to think a deal will get done soon, if ever.

Meanwhile, on the east coast, there is an unseemly story. New York Giants owner John Mara said he was aware of the repeated allegations of domestic abuse against kicker Josh Brown, but elected to re-sign him anyway. Due to the allegations, Brown is facing a one-game suspension.

Maybe Brown is innocent, but what a ridiculous stance by Mara. The Giants should have moved on from a guy who has an awful lot of allegations against him. At some point, don’t you become scared off by all the noise around this situation? Shame on the Giants, one of the major franchises in the NFL.

Finally, the New England Patriots welcomed tight end Rob Gronkowski back to practice. Gronkowski is more important that ever with so many Patriots on the shelf. Tom Brady will miss the first four games of the season while outside linebacker Rob Ninkovich might also be out until October. Right tackle Sabastian Vollmer could miss the season, while center Bryan Stork was moved to the Washington Redskins.

With so much going wrong in New England, the return of Gronkowski should put smiles on plenty of faces.
