NFL rumors: Broncos starting QB spot still up for grabs
By Matt Couden
In the latest NFL rumors, it appears that the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback decision is still up in the air, with a decision likely next week.
Mark Sanchez, Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian? That’s the decision currently weighing on Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak. With the team coming off a Super Bowl championship last season and the retirement of star quarterback Payton Manning, it could be rough in the Mile High City this upcoming campaign.
A recent NFL.com report indicates that Siemian is expected to start in Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. However, it’s still unknown who will be the No. 2 QB behind Siemian. Lynch and Sanchez are the options as a substitute, but Sanchez had two fumbles in his outing against San Francisco.
That said, it raises the question of who is going to be the starter when the season hits. Siemian may have the best chance at that due to his team status, although Sanchez is the highest-paid guy of the three options.
Siemian was already a member of the Broncos when Sanchez and Lynch arrived. Sanchez was traded to Denver from the Philadelphia Eagles. Lynch was drafted by the team in the most recent NFL Draft.
Clearly, Lynch lacks the experience to be the team’s starter. While Sanchez has experience, his performances have been questionable. He even felt he cost himself an opportunity due to his poor outing against the 49ers. However, he’s also quoted as saying “I don’t quit. I’ll take this thing down to the wire if that’s what it takes, and that’s what it looks like. So let’s go.”

Whoever ends up being the starter is going to have some big shoes to fill. It will be impossible to replace Manning, and the fans will be hungry for another successful season. It could be tough to be a Broncos fan this season while they determine who the best option will be tossing the ball down the field.
