Maple Leafs goalie Jhonas Enroth will replace Robin Lehner on Sweden’s World Cup of Hockey roster.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner was initially named to Sweden’s roster for the World Cup of Hockey in September. However, Lehner has not fully recovered from a foot surgery so he will not be participating in the tournament. Recently signed goaltender Jhonas Enroth of the Toronto Maple Leafs will be replacing him on the roster according to Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski.

It is not likely that Enroth will see much playing time at the tournament because Sweden already has Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers. Lundqvist is widely known as one of the best goaltenders in the world. Enroth will definitely benefit from Sweden’s incredible blue line. Any action that he does see likely won’t be too difficult due to their defensive depth.

Sweden is one of the favorites to win the tournament thanks to Lundqvist and their defense. Their forwards aren’t too shabby either. Sweden probably has the best overall roster of any country. Lundqvist is easily up there with any of the goaltenders on Team Canada and Team USA. Sweden does, however, lack the depth in net that Canada and the United States will have.

Team Sweden boasts the best blue line of the tournament. Their forwards are comparable to Canada’s and the United States. Enroth is coming off an impressive season for the Los Angeles Kings. Serving as the backup for Jonathan Quick, Enroth put up a career high .922 save percentage, allowing just 2.17 goals per game in 16 appearances (13 starts). Enroth has a career .911 save percentage and will likely serve as the backup for Frederik Andersen with the Maple Leafs.

The Maple Leafs goaltender has also played for the Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars, and Kings. He was drafted by the Sabres in the second round of the 2006 NHL Draft.
