Marvel’s latest teaser is for something big coming to start off next year, but we’ll learn more about it early next month.

As a comics fan, one of my favorite things is trying to guess what Marvel’s most cryptic teasers are about.

One of those showed up today, in an email with a subject line that simply read, “Coming Soon…” Attached was the following image:

I’m going to assume that it means M-U, as in Marvel Universe, and is not pronounced like the sound a cow makes. But then again, I could be totally wrong with this little information given about it.

We won’t have to wait long to get more though, as something is happening Thursday, September 1 at 6:45 p.m. Eastern. Live stream? Simply another press release? Guess we’ll see.

Steve McNiven is definitely at the point of his career where anything he does is worth a look and has a tendency to be a big deal. I believe the last thing he did for Marvel was an arc on Uncanny Inhumans with Charles Soule, but I’m admittedly too pressed for time to fact check that.

Does his name being listed first mean he’s also helping co-write whatever this is with Cullen Bunn? It could, or I could be speculating wildly at that as well.

January would be a little early for Marvel’s next big event to kick off, since those tend to be spring into summer things, but MU might be the story that follows Civil War II in the pecking order of event comics. Let’s get together and discuss this again a week from now.
