At Duke University a tradition has been established where freshman are given an opportunity to shop for school supplies after hours at the local Target in Durham North Carolina. This year an estimated 1,700 students were bused to the store expecting to grab customary items like pens, calculators and notebooks while having a few laughs and then returning back to campus.

But Target had a more meaningful experience in mind for the new Blue Devils. Former NBA All-Star and Duke basketball legend Grant Hill awaited the students in the store to help set them on the path for a productive school year. According to the press release:

"He posed for pics, helped shop for planners and groceries and shot a few hoops in the sporting goods aisle. Of course, there was a little reminiscing about his alma mater—and he even gave a few tips to help students get to the top of their new-to-campus game: manage your time wisely and find the library!"

The store also provided a DJ, snacks and coupons to create a vibrant atmosphere that these young students won’t easily forget. Starting your college career out with a mini-party at Target with Grant Hill isn’t a bad way to begin higher learning.
