With his name already in the top headlines, will Colin Kaepernick not have a home soon on the 49ers roster?

Over the course of the past 24 hours, Colin Kaepernick has been at the forefront of all the talk when it comes to the NFL. Of course, the reason being that he refuses to stand for the playing of the national anthem, citing racial oppression issues in the country at the moment. However, that might not be the biggest of his worries soon.

No, Kaepernick may soon have an issue with actually having a home to play football, as the San Francisco 49ers may be done with him. Sunday, FOX’s Jay Glazer reported that the former Super Bowl quarterback is facing an “uphill battle” in regards to even making the roster this preseason.

“Regardless of politics or not, he has a very, very big uphill battle to make this team,” Glazer said (h/t Pro Football Talk). “I’d be shocked if he’s on the 49ers by the time this season ends.”

Now of course, Glazer was quick to point out that a decision like this from the 49ers would come purely for football reasons, not because of anything political. While some may think that the team would want to cut him because he’s a big distraction at the moment, the fact of the matter is that he’s having some serious issues when it comes to actual football. Plain and simple, he’s not the player that he once was and he didn’t progress as his career went on the way we all assumed that he would.

With the contract Kaepernick possesses, it’s a bit of a risk for the 49ers to just cut ties with him plain and simple, but it seems that the brass in San Francisco may truly believe that he’s just a lost cause at this point.

Definitely an interesting situation we have developing here as the NFL regular season approaches.
