Colin Kaepernick took a ton of flak for sitting out the National Anthem on Friday night. He said to the Bay Area media on Sunday that he’ll keep doing it.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick met with the Bay Area media on Sunday to explain his rationality behind choosing to sit out the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner at 49ers games. In short, he’s not planning on stopping his peaceful protest anytime soon.

Bay Area News Group’s 49ers reporter Cam Inman did a fantastic job compiling footage of Kaepernick’s meeting with the Bay Area media.

Teammates like Daniel Kilgore, Shaun Draughn, and NaVorro Bowman have heard Kaepernick’s case to not stand up for the playing of the United States’ national anthem. Kaepernick is clearly making a point that violence and racism in the United States needs to stop. He understands the backlash that he will certainly receive from people all across America.

On the field Friday night versus the Green Bay Packers, Kaepernick struggled under center. He went 2-for-6 for just 14 passing yards in the 49ers’ preseason loss to Green Bay. Friday night was his best opportunity to usurp incumbent starter Blaine Gabbert on the 49ers quarterback depth chart.

Kaepernick did not take advantage of his first preseason game of camp and will likely back up Gabbert on Sunday in Week 11, ironically on September 11th. There is a chance that the 49ers may end up cutting Kaepernick and go with either veteran Christian Ponder or rookie Jeff Driskel as the No. 2 behind Gabbert.
