Connor Shaw deletes tweet calling broken leg play a ‘cheap shot’
Bears backup quarterback Connor Shaw was on the recieving end of what he says what an avoidable tackle.
During Saturday’s pre-season NFL game between the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs Connor Shaw, the Bears back QB suffered a horendous above the ankle break of his left leg after taking a hit from Chiefs defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
Shaw took to his twitter account on Sunday to voice his pleasure at the tackle saying,
“Injuries are part of the game & i understand that,” the since deleted tweet read. “This should’ve been avoided. No need for that cheap BS!”
Shaw was quick to delete his tweet with no explanation as to why. The tackle can be seen below:
So is Shaw right in saying this injury was avoidable? While the hit came after he threw the ball away Nunez-Roches had less than a second to either commit to or pull out of the tackle that subsequently will rule the Bears third-stringer out for the 2016 season, it was how Nunez-Roches landed on the lower part of Shaw’s body that caused the injury.
The hit was high so any intent to purposely injure Shaw can immediately be ruled out and we can pretty much say this is one of those very unfortunate freak accidents that happen in contact sports like the NFL.
As for Shaw, he will reportedly be undergoing further tests to see if surgery is needed to repair the damage to his leg.
