Michael Phelps introduces Future at VMAs (Video)
Michael Phelps introduced Future at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards and discussed his influence on one of his most priceless moments.
One wouldn’t think that Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and Future would have a connection, but they do. There was a lot more to Phelps introducing Future at the MTV Music Video Awards than meets the eye. Phelps cited that he enjoys Future’s work and that he is a huge fan of his.
What a lot of people might not have realized is that Phelps was listening to Future when he made his now infamous “Phelps face” at his rival Chad le Clos. Phelps later beat le Clos to win yet another gold medal. The most decorated Olympian ever was listening to “Stick Talk,” a song on Future’s DS2 when it happened.

Before he even spoke, Phelps got a standing ovation from the Madison Square Garden crowd. And understandably so, as Phelps is the most successful Olympian of all-time. He is an American icon and it will be a very long time before anyone comes close to beating his career medals total. There was even a huge “USA” chant before Phelps even started speaking. Phelps talked about how he believes that nobody is more inspiring in hip hop today than Future. And a lot of people would agree with that.
It remains to be seen what Phelps will do with his life now that he is allegedly done with swimming competitively. However, it is worth noting that he said that he was done in London as well. But this time, it felt more real. Perhaps Phelps will find himself listening to more Future and hip hop now that he will have a lot more free time on his hands.
