It’s only a matter of when, not if, Yasiel Puig will be traded. Someone will take him off the Dodgers’ hands, but not everyone should.
Yasiel Puig has been placed on trade waivers. This should just about put the nail in the coffin for his Los Angeles Dodgers career. It’s been a bumpy ride, with monumental highs, and Marianas Trench lows. At only 25 years old, Puig still has all the potential in the world, but will need a fresh start.
With Puig on waivers, it’s hard to imagine all 29 teams passing on him. His contract is too team-friendly, and his untapped potential too vast. The Dodgers clearly want to be done with their problem child, and do not have much leverage in a trade. For a prospect or two, Puig can be had. The cost will not be so prohibitive as to prevent most teams in MLB from taking a shot at acquiring him.
Still, there are plenty of red flags surrounding the man they call Wild Horse. Teams will have to be careful before bringing him in. For these five teams, the juice will not be worth the squeeze. So, which teams absolutely must avoid getting involved in Yasiel Puig trade talks?
