New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman each commented on the recent Colin Kaepernick anthem controversy.

The Colin Kaepernick national anthem controversy continues with more individuals giving their comments over the situation. Most recently, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman gave their thoughts.

Brees is an avid military supporter who views the flag as “sacred.” He was certainly against what Kaepernick chose to do, telling the media on Monday:

"“I disagree. I wholeheartedly disagree. Not that he wants to speak out about a very important issue. No, he can speak out about a very important issue. But there’s plenty of other ways that you can do that in a peaceful manner that doesn’t involve being disrespectful to the American flag.”"

According to Yahoo! Sports, Richard Sherman said he felt Kaepernick was coming from a “good place,” with the intent of his protest. Sherman added:

"“This country is the same country that had ‘whites’ and ‘colored’ signs on the bathroom. We’re still in that country, we’re still in that nation. And that needs to be acknowledged and that needs to be changed. There are people with that mentality that still exists, and that needs to change. There are people who still treat people of color with subjectivity.”"

The controversy came after Kaepernick chose to sit during the national anthem before an NFL preseason game Friday against the Green Bay Packers. Kaepernick said on Sunday he would continue to do that as a protest against oppression “of black people and people of color.” His decision has met with a variety of opinions from all over.

It’s likely that more athletes from all sports will continue to chime in on Kaepernick’s decision. The most interesting aspect of it all is that the league isn’t really stepping in to issue any sort of punishment. The NFL notoriously fined the very same Colin Kaepernick in 2014 for choosing to wear Beats headphones instead of Bose. The Bose company happens to be an NFL sponsor.

Then again, there are many people that feel Kaepernick has the freedom to express himself in this manner. So for now, it seems he will continue to generate controversy and discussion over his decision to sit out the anthem.
