Eric Decker, Always Undervalued
By Perry Lowe
Eric Decker is one of the most undervalued players in all of fantasy football. It is plain and simple no one ever feels confident when selecting Eric Decker. For some odd reason one of the most consistent fantasy players is always heavily undervalued. Decker has found the end zone regularly each season. Additionally he has had three 1000+ yard seasons in four seasons, and has broke the 80 reception mark in three of four seasons. Consistency does matter in fantasy football and can change an entire season. In my opinion Decker is being drafted extremely low considering how consistent he has been.
Touchdown Machine
Decker’s touchdown count goes like this in the past four seasons:
2012 – 13
2013 – 11
2014 – 5
2015 – 12
With the exception of one hamstring plagued season, Decker has been a touchdown machine. Any amount of touchdowns over ten is excellent in my opinion and consistently putting up over ten is outstanding. Despite this outstanding level of consistency Decker has been undervalued nearly every season. I sincerely believe that Decker can put up another 10+ touchdown season (pending injury). It would not surprise me to see Decker closer to the 12-14 range this season yet again with Ryan Fitzpatrick officially resigning with the Jets.
Very Low Average Draft Position
With an ADP currently sitting at 52.1, Decker is a steal in the early to middle fifth round. He is the 23rd wide receiver off the board despite finishing inside the top 10 among wide receivers in standard leagues last season. Players being selected around Decker include other second wide receivers such as Cobb, Moncrief, along with starters Tate and Maclin. In my opinion Decker is one of the safest picks among these players due to varying circumstances around the other players. Decker will find the endzone and will likely break the 1000 yard mark yet again this season whereas some of those players have the potential to not even come close. Drafting Decker this late in any draft is not a mistake and can be a difference maker in fantasy leagues.
Verdict
Decker seemingly is one of the undervalued wide receivers this season and will continue to be overlooked. It is not a mistake to draft Eric Decker in the fifth round in any draft and he could easily finish as a WR1 again this year. If Decker and the Jets continue to move the ball like they did last season I see no reason why Decker can not repeat his stats from last season. Overall it is a huge mistake to not draft Eric Decker this season, especially in standard scoring leagues.
