Carolina also gets a 2017 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2018 fourth-round draft choice and punter Kasey Redfern.

The Carolina Panthers announced today that they have acquired three-time Pro Bowl punter Andy Lee and a fourth-round selection in 2017 from the Browns while sending punter Kasey Redfern and a fourth-round pick in 2018 to Cleveland.

Lee is a 13-year NFL veteran having spent 11 seasons with the 49ers before moving to the Browns for one and has not missed a regular season game in his career. He is a four-time All-Pro (2007, 2011 and 2012 first-team selection, and 2009 second-team selection) as well as being named to the Pro Bowl in 2007, 2009 and 2011 and ranks sixth all-time in gross punting average (46.2), eighth all-time in net average (39.5) and ninth all-time in punts inside the 20 (325) in NFL history.

In his only season in Cleveland, Lee set club records with a 46.7-yard gross average and a 40.1-yard net average and of his 70 punts, 25 landed inside the 20. He recorded the second-best punting average in NFL history at 44.0 in 2011 and the next year added a 43.2 net average. It was the sixth-best single-season average in NFL history.

The 34-year old Pittsburgh alum led the league twice in punting yardage with 4,447 in 2005 and two seasons later booted for 4,968. Lee has paced the NFL three times in total punts (2005, 2007 and 2009), twice with the longest punts of the year (81 in 2004 and 82 in 2008) and once in overall average with 50.9 in 2011. Last season he averaged 46.7 yards a punt without having one blocked.

Lee was originally drafted in the sixth round (188th overall) of the 2004 draft by San Francisco and was traded to Cleveland for a conditional 2017 pick a year ago.

Redfern is out of nearby Wofford College, where the Panthers hold training camp in Spartanburg, SC. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
