Did Paul Kruger throw some shade at the Cleveland Browns after they released him?

Getting released from a sports team is one of the hardest things about being an athlete. Many don’t take it well. Paul Kruger certainly didn’t. After the Cleveland Browns released the linebacker, Kruger went on Twitter and released a statement that might have been his way of throwing some shade at his former team.

Let’s just overlook his misspelling of “mishandled.” He could be talking about a lady with the last name of “handled,” but it seems pretty obvious that his spell check betrayed him. Kruger took the time to thank the Browns for his three seasons in Cleveland. He signed with them after he won the Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.

Kruger had 4.5 sacks in his first season with the Browns but set a career high with 11 sacks and 53 tackles in 2014. However, Kruger had just 2.5 sacks last season. His production unquestionably declined and the Browns finally have some depth on their defense. Kruger isn’t that far removed from having an 11 sack season, but the Browns have younger and cheaper options than him who might be better at this point.

While Kruger thanked the organization, he suggested that his release from the Browns was mishandled and the wrong decision. It will be up to Kruger to prove that he is right in that regard. Kruger will not be getting a huge contract after his disappointing 2015, but with teams constantly trying to find new ways to get to the quarterback, Kruger shouldn’t be without a job for that long.

In 99 career games, Kruger has 33.5 sacks and 199 tackles. Kruger saw his best years with the Ravens, who used him as a hybrid defensive lineman/linebacker. That’s probably what teams should try to use him as. The Browns used him almost exclusively as a linebacker.
