Following the Colin Kaepernick national anthem protest and his comments last week, the San Francisco Police Officers Association has come forward asking the NFL and San Francisco 49ers for an apology.

Last week, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sent shockwaves through the NFL and American public with his national anthem protest. The QB chose to sit during the national anthem as his way of protesting the actions of certain police officers towards African Americans and people of color.

The 49ers and league didn’t issue any sort of punishment for Kaepernick’s decision. Now, the San Francisco Police Officers Association is asking for both of them to apologize for Kaepernick’s comments.

More from NFL

According to NBC Sports, the SFPOA sent a letter to 49ers owner Jed York and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell bringing up Kaepernick’s “incredible lack of knowledge” regarding their profession and “total lack of sensitivity towards police officers.”

The letter was signed by SFPOA president Martin Halloran. It also mentions how police officers have been on hand to make sure the venues where the NFL holds events are protected. That includes protecting the players such as Kaepernick and his teammates.

Basically, the letter is asking that the NFL publicly denounce Kaepernick’s comments and separate itself from his protest. However, Kaepernick’s comments don’t seem to be aimed towards all police officers and the letter doesn’t really address the controversial incidents that have sparked outrage throughout the country.

That said, it should be interesting to see what the San Francisco 49ers and NFL do with regards to a response. It’s certainly a delicate matter that has a lot of people upset. There are those people upset that Kaepernick is choosing to disrespect the country’s anthem, but the loss of lives and a need for some change is the more serious matter here.
