DraftKings MLB Picks: Top Bargain plays for August 30thĀ

Finding value isĀ the ever so elusive, ā€œHoly Grail.ā€ Making cap room for pitchers and big bats can make all the difference in a lineup. With a little elbow grease in the research department, I’m hoping to offer a handful of players that could give critical salary relief for tonight’s DraftKings MLBĀ picks.

Tonight’s slate features 15 games, with a few teams standing out as having theĀ best chance to score the most runs. Even with a game at Coors Field, neither Colorado, nor LA is projected to score the most runs on the slate. Detroit has the highest projection at 5.8 runs, followed by, Cleveland (5.7), Toronto (5.5), and LA (5.5). Depending on how the lineups shake out, LA, St.Louis, and Texas, could be quite under priced. If you’re planning on paying up for Scherzer or Cueto tonight, here are some bargain players to consider.

Tyler Collins – DET (OF) – $2700

Can Collins please just make the lineup? Collins was on my radar last night, but he failed to make the starting lineup. Again, he’s facing a righty and given Detroit’s team total, he’ll be my top punt play.

Andrew Toles – LAD (OF) – $3000,Ā Rob Segedin – LAD (3B/OF) – $3000

I’m hoping at least one, if not both of these guys make the lineup tonight. LA is predicted to score five and a half runs, and Toles and Segedin would be very under priced.

Yulieski Gurriel – HOU (3B) – $2500

Houston is set to beat up on Oakland at home tonight, and Gurriel could be a beneficiary. Gurriel is much more affordable on DraftKings and could be a great punt option if he’s batting in the top five.

Delino DeShields – TEX (OF) – $3300

DeShields will face the lefty, Paxton tonight. He currently holds a .303 wOBA split against lefties. DeShields’ value comes from a decent Texas team total of 4.8 runs and his position in the order. (leadoff)

Jeremy Hazelbaker – STL (OF) – $3800

St.Louis has a fairly high run projection of five runs, Hazelbaker could take advantage of facing the righty, Peralta. Hazelbaker holds a .367 wOBA and a .272 ISO split.

Tommy Pham – STL (OF) – $3600

Similarly to Hazelbaker, Pham could benefit from a positive Vegas projection for the Cards. Pham has reverse splits, where he holds a .391 wOBA and a .285 ISO split. I’ll lean towards whichever of these two players is batting highest in the order.

Justin Smoak – TOR (1B) – $3900

Smoak, a switch hitter, will be on the good side of a lefty vs. righty split as he faced Jimenez tonight. Smoak is better against righties where he holds a .342 wOBA and .235 ISO split. With a projected total of 5.5 and Smoak’s power upside, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take Jimenez deep tonight.
