Will Beatty returns to New York Giants on one-year deal
By Nick Ziegler
The New York Giants have addressed their offensive line woes by signing a familiar face. Is the signing of Will Beatty a good move?
After releasing offensive lineman Will Beatty in February, the New York Giants have brought him back on a one-year deal. The Giants’ offensive line has really struggled so far in the preseason and has been a weak spot on the team for a few years now.
In their recent loss to the New York Jets, the Giants’ offensive line looked awful against Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams. An injury to Justin Pugh this preseason has not helped the offensive line, but it was a unit that needed to be improved.
The signing of Beatty for the Giants gives them some new options on the offensive line heading into the season. Currently, Marshall Newhouse was the right tackle, but that side of the line has been the side questioned the most.
Even though Beatty was the left tackle for the Giants in his first stint with the team, he is expected to be moved to the right side. One of the real nice things about the signing is that the Giants now have some insurance at left tackle if Ereck Flowers struggles.
It was a pretty disappointing rookie season for Flowers in 2015. Being a rookie left tackle in the NFL is a challenging task, and injuries didn’t help him prove what he is capable of. In addition to the concerns on the right side, if Flowers struggles this season, the Giants could flip him and Beatty at the tackle position.

It would seem likely that Beatty should be able to take the job quickly from Newhouse at right tackle. Finally, the signing of Beatty should help strengthen the Giants’ offensive line heading into the regular season.
