Vikings: Ranking 5 potential Teddy Bridgewater replacements from ‘pathetic’ to ‘less pathetic’
3. Mark Sanchez
Mark Sanchez took the New York Jets to the AFC Playoffs in his first two seasons in the NFL. Okay, maybe “took” is a strong word. Ultimately he was there, and the Jets looked to be on the verge of breaking through into the NFL’s upper echelon behind Rex Ryan’s strong defense.
That was many moons ago. It’s been all downhill for Sanchez ever since. His game never progressed as the Jets were hoping, and the team cut ties with him after the 2014 season. He has turned the ball over 105 times in his 75-game career. And who could ever forget the “butt fumble?”
Sanchez, a seven-year veteran, appeared to have a lead on the Denver Broncos’ starting QB job. Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler left town for the Texans. Sanchez, acquired from the
Eagles this past offseason, had to be the guy by default, right?
Wrong. The Broncos named unheralded, 2015 seventh round pick Trevor Siemian as their starter. The fact that Siemian was able to outperform Sanchez this summer doesn’t bode well for the veteran’s future. Sanchez in a Vikings jersey probably wouldn’t bode well for Minnesota either.
