The Appalachian State Mountaineers will take on the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday, Sept.1 in Knoxville. Here’s how to watch this game online.

Thursday, Sept. 1 features several intriguing games to begin the Week 1 slate. One could argue the best team taking the field on Thursday will be the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers of the SEC, who will host a strong mid-major school in Appalachian State of the Sun Belt.

Tennessee enters the 2016 season as the presumed favorite to win the SEC East and fight for a College Football Playoff spot. Head coach Butch Jones has recruited marvelously the last few years to rebuild this Tennessee program, and this might well the year his efforts start to pay some serious dividends.

The Volunteers reached a bowl game for the second straight season under Jones in 2015 with a 9-4 (5-3) record. Tennessee looks to be the favorite in the SEC East, but has not won its division since the 2007 season.

Though Tennessee will be a 20.5-point favorite over Appalachian State, the Mountaineers are already one of the better Group of 5 programs in the country. The traditional FCS power went 11-2 during its second year in the Sun Belt, earning its first bowl game bid since moving to Division I.

This should be an interesting night game between two schools from the same neck of the woods, each of which appears poised to win 10 games apiece this fall. Kickoff from massive Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee will be at 7:30 PM ET on Thursday night. The SEC Network will air the telecast with a live stream coming via WatchESPN.
