Boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez adds his name to the list of people interested in getting in the octagon with Conor McGregor.
The “rivalry” between mixed martial arts and boxing continues its unnecessary back and forth as yet another boxer has taken aim at current UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor. This time it is the lineal middleweight champion, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez who is offering his services to welcome McGregor into the world of professional boxing.
“If he wants to try out boxing, then anytime he wants. If he wants to come over to this side of the world and try boxing, anytime he wants, to see that it’s not as easy as he thinks,” Alvarez said while speaking to FightHub TV and reported by Jed Meshew of MMA Fighting.
While this fight is improbable as the idea of McGregor fighting Floyd Mayweather; it continues the compelling back and forth that reveals the intrigue and excitement McGregor has brought to combat sports. Canelo first complimented McGregor when talking about the lead up to UFC 202, which McGregor took as an opportunity to take shots at Canelo and presented the idea that he ducked Gennady “GGG” Glovkin.
Again, fans of both boxing and MMA should not get excited about this fight, because there’s mound of legal reasoning why it will not happen. However, the fact that McGregor is consistently being talked about by the biggest names in boxing and even the world of professional wrestling proves that he’s the biggest star the company has at this time. As he continues to talk about the next options after defeating Nate Diaz at UFC 202, many are watching just to see what he can pull off for the future.

The idea of McGregor’s next fight occurring outside of the UFC is an interesting prospect as many of the athletes push for more “power” within the sport. If the Irish fighter truly takes that leap and makes it happen, Canelo is ready to welcome him into the world of boxing.
