New Pikmin game coming to Nintendo 3DS

A new and different Pikmin title will be making its way to the Nintendo 3DS in 2017.

The Pikmin series is one of the most unique and innovative Nintendo IP’s in recent memory. Primarily playing as Captain Olimar for most of the series, you play on an unknown planet and you encounter a strange species of creatures known as Pikmin.

These Pikmin are very intelligent and come in different colors, such as red, blue and yellow. Each of these different color Pikmin serve a different purpose. For example, the red Pikmin isn’t affected by fire, the blue Pikmin can breathe underwater, and the yellow Pikmin isn’t affected by lightning.

Depending on the situation and the task at hand, Captain Olimar uses these different types of Pikmin to advance in the game and work his way through the world. From sending the Pikmin to obtain objects, to using them as weapons to defeat enemies that you may encounter, Captain Olimar using them in a variety of ways in the Pikmin series.

So far, the Pikmin series has only been released on home consoles with the most recent one releasing on the Nintendo Wii U back in 2013. On Thursday, it was announced that a brand-new untitled Pikmin game will be releasing on the Nintendo 3DS next year.

In the new Pikmin game for 3DS, the series is taking a new approach. With Captain Olimar returning in this installment, we also see the some of the original Pikmin will also be returning. But, the game is now a side-scrolling action game. The game will be heavily focused on using the Pikmin depending on the situation, like most games. But, it will have more of a narrow approach compared to the other games in the series.
