Tennessee wide receiver Josh Malone scored this amazing touchdown on Thursday night vs. Appalachian State

The Tennessee Volunteers were not in a good way on Thursday night. A popular pick among many to take the SEC, the Volunteers were having a pretty tough time on Thursday night against the Appalachian State Mountaineers, going into the third quarter down 13-6. But Josh Malone would make sure that he would get his team back into this game.

You always wanna look to a veteran when your backs are against the wall and Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs did just that in the fourth quarter. With the Volunteers driving, Dobbs dropped back and fired the ball down the left side in the direction of Malone. Malone was able to work around the defender, come down with the ball and then proceed to take it to the house for the game-tying score.

This was a score that Tennessee desperately needed.

Tennessee did have a lot of high hopes coming into this season and a loss in the opening game would have really been a back breaker. It’s sometimes beneficial to lose early on in the season, but if the Volunteers were to drop this one to a Sun Belt team, then that would not bode rather well for their future aspirations of an SEC and national title.

But, again, they were helped out by one of the veterans on this team in Malone, who many people were looking to to make a play all game up until this point. We all knew that he couldn’t stay silent for long, and he has now made his presence felt.

Now, we have quite the game going on in Neyland Stadium with everything all tied up and time running out.
