Syracuse Orange quarterback Eric Dungey was pleasantly surprised when his brother, who is in the army, met him before Syracuse’s Week 1 game vs. Colgate.

Syracuse Orange starting quarterback Eric Dungey was greeted by the last person he expected before his team’s Week 1 home opener on Friday night. Dungey’s brother Matt, who is active member of the United States Army, was there to greet his younger brother.

Eric had not seen his older brother Matt since 2014. That means Matt had never seen Eric play a Division I college football game, as Eric is only a sophomore signal caller for the Orange.

It was quite the moment hours before kickoff at the Carrier Dome on Friday night. The younger Dungey brother was ready to play Colgate in Syracuse’s home opener on Friday. Their embrace outside the Carrier Dome says it all.

Syracuse enters the 2016 NCAA season with tempered expectations. The Orange haven’t had a winning season since 2013, but have hired former Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green head coach Dino Babers this offseason.

Babers is fast riser in the college coaching ranks, coaching Jimmy Garoppolo at Eastern Illinois from 2012 to 2013. His last two seasons at Bowling Green had seen the Falcons go to consecutive bowls and win the Mid-American Conference’s East Division in back-to-back seasons.

With his older brother Matt in attendance, can Dungey lead the Orange to back to a bowl in 2016? Babers has won at least seven games in all four seasons as a college head coach. A convincing win over Colgate will only help.
