Oklahoma State Cowboys back Barry Sanders Jr. scored a touchdown on his first rushing play of the game Saturday.

The son of a legend took the field on Saturday for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and scored quickly. After transferring to Oklahoma State for this season, Barry J. Sanders, aka Barry Sanders Jr., made both his dad and new team proud. The senior back was able to score on just his first rushing play of the game.

Late in the first quarter, Sanders ran for a one-yard touchdown to help his team further add to their points total. After his short distance score, the Cowboys led the Southeastern Louisiana Lions 28-0 in what was a lopsided first quarter.

The former Stanford Cardinal player transferred to Oklahoma State to play his senior year. He is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, who starred in the league as a running back for the Detroit Lions. Most likely, dad was proudly watching as his son notched that first TD for his newest team.

The elder Barry Sanders played his college career for the Cowboys. He won the Heisman Trophy as a member of the team in 1988 and went on to become the No. 3 pick in the next year’s draft. From there, the rest was history as he racked up plenty of impressive stats in the pro league. Among those accolades, he ranks at No. 3 amongst all running backs for total rushing yards with 15,269.

Barry J. Sanders hopes to follow in his dad’s footsteps as best he can. He’s off to a quick start for his dad’s college team.
