During the second quarter of the Clemson-Auburn game, Brent Musburger took a jab at Louisville head coach when talking about contenders around college football this season.

In terms of college football, nobody calls the action better than ESPN/SEC Network play-by-play man Brent Musburger.

Musburger was paired with usual SEC Network partner Jesse Palmer for No. 2 Clemson’s season opener against unranked Auburn on Saturday night and the topic of playoff contenders came up.

When he brought up the Louisville Cardinals as a sleeper contender in the College Football Playoff race, Musburger couldn’t help but throw a little shade at Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino.

In case you didn’t know, Brent Musburger is a legend and the only person that can get away with saying something like this.

The fact that Musburger referenced Petrino’s motorcycle scandal from his days as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks (that led to his termination by the school) in the middle of a game is the absolute best. It’s not like the game was a blowout either. It was a competitive 7-3 game and not a 30-point blowout.

To be fair to Petrino and the Cardinals, Musburger might be right. Lamar Jackson looked like one of the most explosive players in the country during Louisville’s season-opening blowout over Charlotte. On top of that, the Cardinals’ only real competition in the AAC will be Tom Herman and the Houston Cougars, who picked up a huge win against Oklahoma on Saturday.

Still, Musburger’s ability to keep things lively and entertaining when he calls a game is what makes him one of the all-time greats in the booth. What other broadcaster can talk about betting lines in Las Vegas for a game and make it entertaining? The easy answer is nobody.
