Houston pulls off kick-six against Oklahoma (Video)
Houston’s Brandon Wilson took a deep missed Oklahoma field goal all the way back to the house to give the Cougars a big boost in their showdown.
With Brandon Wilson and Houston clinging to a two-point lead against No. 3 Oklahoma in their Week 1 meeting in Houston, the Sooners attempted a long field goal to retake the lead.
Shortly after, Wilson and utter chaos ensued.
Wilson grabbed the missed kick and took it back 109 yards for the best touchdown of the short college football season to give Houston a bit of a cushion against the Sooners.
Can you say “Kick Six II”? What a play.
Throughout their biggest game of the season, Houston has made the big plays. A huge play from quarterback Greg Ward Jr. and Linell Bonner towards the end of the first half allowed the Cougars to attempt a go-ahead field goal and take a lead.
Wilson’s kick-six is the play of the game so far. It’s one of the rarest plays in football and although it doesn’t have the impact (yet) of the Chris Davis Jr. kick-six against Alabama a few years ago, it’s been the best play of the young season so far. Between the long return and the hurdle late in the runback, Wilson lit Houston on fire with his touchdown.
For Houston, they need this game. Oklahoma will clearly be the best team they play all season and there’s a good chance the Sooners are the only ranked team Houston plays this year. If the Cougars are going to pull a Boise State in the BCS era and crash the College Football Playoff this season, they need to come out on top against the Sooners.
