Incredible catch by Houston Cougars’ Linell Bonner (Video)

Houston Cougars quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. connects with wide receiver Linell Bonner for an unbelievable first down late in the second half versus Oklahoma.
The No. 15 Houston Cougars were going to need a few big plays to pull off the upset of the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at NRG Stadium. Late in the second quarter down 17-16, Cougars quarterback Greg Ward, Jr. orchestrated a magnificent drive to help Houston take a 19-17 lead into halftime. The best play of the drive was easily Linell Bonner’s ridiculous first down grab.
The Sooners pass rush was all over Ward on a crucial third and 10 at the Houston 42-yard line. Ward scrambled for his life, changing directions several times before finding a leaping Bonner for a huge first-down gain.
Ward successfully evaded the Oklahoma pass rush to give himself a few seconds to find a leaping Bonner near the sidelines. He threw a dart with great poise to Bonner, who was surrounded by four Oklahoma defenders.
Somehow Bonner was able to get his foot down for the huge first down for Houston with 24 seconds on the clock. Houston would run a few more plays, including another Ward to Bonner connection on the other sidelines before kicking a field goal as time expired to take the lead.
Ward has shown flashes of brilliance in the passing game against Oklahoma but has missed a few big scoring opportunities. He has been fortunate that the Cougars kicker Ty Cummings has been a perfect 4-4 in his field goal attempts this afternoon.

Cummings only attempted eight field goals for Houston all of last season. He has come up huge for the Cougars in the first half of this important non-conference game for Houston. Without Bonner’s amazing catch, Houston would be trailing Oklahoma at the half instead of having a two-point lead.
